Confessions of a Dog Lady - I Bought Junk Food.

Last weekend, in all the chaos, I ran out of soft food for the dogs. They get a big table spoon with both meals. They both turn up their nose at dinner without it.

The closest pet store that would have been open on Sunday was an hour away. I also knew looking at my schedule, I wasn't going to have time to get to the pet store until Thursday. (There is one 5 minutes from where I work part-time). While I pride myself on feeding the dogs high quality food, I made the decision to just get 2 cans of junk food from the grocery store.  I knew this would get us through until Thursday. I plan on getting rid of what is left once the good food enters the house.  I feel bad about it, but am sure for a few meals, they will live.

Have you ever been in a bind when it comes to pet food?

Don't forget to send a picture of your celebration of lights to us at leeandphodATbell.net. We will announce the charity winner tomorrow!

  1. We ran out of dog food once, and as an alternative, gave the dogs chicken!

  2. Hahaha!! We are very careful about having enough for all the dogs, cats (indoor and barn) and hens. I read someone's idea and like it - "one is none, two is one" when it comes to food storage. As for the extra something on top, ever try rice or a cooked egg? Better than junk food maybe? (geez, we spoil them something crazy don't we?!)

  3. Oh dear me Mom knows that feeling. About 3 weeks ago I was down to a few pieces (Mom here: really a few days) to my Grain free salmon kibble. Mom said no worries madi I'll head over to Pet Supply Plus OMCs when she got home it was panic city. Pet Supply Plus said they were no longer carry that flavor of Science Diet but they could order it. Said it would arrive in about 10 days! She called two other stores close by but no luck but they could order too. So she went on the Chewy.com. Lo and behold they had it and could ship it to us in 24 hours. Whew...I thought I was gonna have to fire the old gray mare
    Hugs madi your bfff

  4. Mom Kim here-Have had to do that with the Beaglebratz and their kibble. Usually I am the on e who is picky for them but one time had. to get kibble at Wal-Mart instead of Petsmart or Chewy.com. Found out that the dogs had no lasting I'll effects but I felt rotten.

  5. Yes! We've been know to have a tin of tuna, or just melted peanut butter or Vegemite poured over our kibble...BOL! Olive oil a couple of times. Last night we had satay chicken necks....peanut butter melted over our kibble with some chicken necks on top!

  6. When we first got Zoe, she wouldn't eat the healthy stuff we bought from the store and out of nervousness, we went to the grocery store and got a bag of Iams. Eventually we got her to eat and then switched her over to the better food. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. :)

  10. I absolutely can't feed Nola "junky" dog food if it has corn or soy in it (horrid, horrid food allergies!), but I will fully admit to having a box of Milkbones by the dog crates, despite feeding Orijen and Acana kibble. :p

  11. Mom splurges and splits a can of tuna in oil between us if she doesn't have any canned food. It is good for us and helps keep our furs soft too:)

  12. We just buy Costco bags of kibble so we don't run out. No troubles though.

  13. I try to keep a spare bag of emergency dog food for just such occasions. Pierre has a finicky tummy so I have to be careful what I give him or I'll be pulling out the stain remover and steam vac! LOL!

  14. I've done it more with cat food than dog, but our dogs don't get daily canned food...they only get it twice per week. We've come close to running out of kibble, but somehow always manage to get it right on time (we order online).
Just like with people, I'm sure a little junk food doesn't hurt every once in a while. :)

Last time our person was in a bind she cooked us chicken breast and kale. That was pretty tasty!!

    Was your "junk food" tasty?

  16. Momma does that sometimes, mostly with kitty food. She says SHE gets to eat junk food now and again, so it's not going to hurt US either!
