Some weeks it is hard to decide who should get our mischief award, but this was not such a week.
This week's mischief award goes to the Man.
It started Thursday night (like 9:30) when the Man mistakenly, but not too surprisingly, believe there was a fire in the freezer attached to the fridge. He was in the kitchen and heard weird "popping" noises in the freezer. When he opened it, it was glowing red, steaming, hot and popping - really kind of like an electrical fire. The power was cut, the fridge was moved, etc. etc. No wires were chewed but there was mouse poop (vindicating Hailey who had barked at it a lot Wednesday evening). We moved everything from the freezer to the chest freezer in the garage. While I was exploring new fridge options, the Man was perusing the manual and discovered this was apparently normal. Some web research confirmed this. Apparently sometimes the defrost heater in your fridge can be like that. Who knew? Anyway, we were just relieved to not have to get a new fridge.
Fast-forward to Friday morning. The Man puts a "magic" type bag that his massage therapist has brought (yep, she comes to the house) into the microwave. I was sitting in the dining room and stood up to get some socks as my feet were cold. I look over and the microwave was billowing smoke. The Man had followed the massage therapist's directions and put it in the microwave for 10 minutes. This was too long and it had burnt. They believe the bowl she had for it may not have been microwave safe. This left our house smoky and smelling of burnt, but fortunately no one was hurt.
We are now hoping for a few fire free, boring days!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD GRIEF....NOW THAT IS TOOOOO MUCH EXCITEMENT FOR 2 DAYS. MAYBE MISTER NEEDS TO HAVE STRICT SNOOPERVISION BEFORE HE USES ANY APPLIANCES. I GUESS THE MICROWAVE IS GOING TO THE MICROWAVE RAINBOW BRIDGE

So scary! I'm glad everyone is okay. A microwave can burn things up faster than the blink of an eye.

Two almosts in such a short time! Glad it all turned out ok. You may want to install some smoke detectors. Just in case.

ReplyDeleteY I K E S....................... seriously though; 1) when undergoing fire drills it was often pointed out to us that microwaves are one of the most common sources of home fires... and it is usually because folk overheat their bean-bag 'magic' packs!!! 2) as a therapist who used various grades of 'magic' packs, NONE of them required any longer than 2:50mins of heating, most far less. ...
Hot water bottles. Love 'em... YAM xx
Oh my doGness, the microwave, the fridge, maybe the peeps should give appliances a break for a while.....just sayin.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Yup, the Man definitely wins! At least we pups just chew stuff and bark at it, not sets things on fire!
ReplyDeleteWhew, maybe the man needs to be put in the carrier for awhile. That is what Mommy does with the kittens when they get into mischief.
ReplyDeleteHoly Dog! Better keep him away from the appliances for a bit

We don't know about defrosting heaters.....we have the old sort. That massage bag sure made a mess! We think you'd better stay away from appliances for a few days, unless you're right there with them.
ReplyDeleteOMG you have had a run of scary things! I never heard of a freezer defrost working like that and I hope I never see ours do that! That microwave sure did get the worst of it, we're glad it wasn't any worse. Once a potato caught fire in our microwave and it wasn't even in there too long. The repairman said that potatoes can do that and that he always watches when he puts potatoes in his. Weird!
ReplyDeleteOh my, you haf had sum exciting times…sooo glad everyone is safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteThose mices are getting a bit too cheeky fur their own good

You are right, there is no contest, YOU have a winner!!
ReplyDeleteHi hi hi! Ojo here! Good mischief, Man! Although burn smell is not very nice. Maybe you should cook some bacon to cover it up?
ReplyDeletePee Ess Our people have some of those bags, and they do them in the microwave for two or three minutes at most. They burned one once when they put it in for three minutes, and then re-heated for another three minutes... That was way too much! A minute at most on the reheat! Ten minutes sounds like a Very Long Time to our people for those bags...
