Silly Boy

Both the dogs love to lay by the fire. Zaphod particularly loves it. On Saturday night he was sprawled out in front of it. Suddenly I was aware of him panting and panting. He was soooooooo hot, too hot, but didn't want to move. We had to call him away. He sat and panted on the couch for half an hour before cooling down.  Silly boy!

Here is a short video of him panting. (He kept stopping while I tried to record it!)

  2. Silly, but not as silly as my predecessor Hamish the Westie, who apparently once singed his white furs a yellowy brown colour by falling asleep too close to an electric fire.

  4. I'm with you Phod... it's a hard decision to leave a comfy place or to melt away with heat :o)

  5. I use to have a Basenji who was the same way - she would all but wrap herself around the fire and even in summer when it was in the 40C+ outside she would be laying out on the concrete sunning herself :)

  6. I don't ever have to worry about such things at home, but when we camp I love being close to the warmth from the fire. Of course, it is silly to stay there until you overheat Phod but you have to do what you have to do.

  11. Our mom is like that with her heater. The rest of us are about to combust into flames and she says it is just right.

Oh this reminded me of angel Jade - she also loved to get up close and personal with the winter heater - thankfully no open 'flame' or 'filament'... but the panting was pretty much like this! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  22. Our beagle does that ALL the time in front of the woodstove. She will lie down literally mere inches from the front of it until she's panting away like a freight train! We sometimes make her move but most of the time she'll finally get up and move onto the tile floor somewhere or go outside.

  25. Crikey ..... I understand Phod!! It never gets cold enough for a heater here but the other day it was 32C and I went and laid on the grass in the sun for AGES!! Mum had to call me to come inside and I lay panting for such a long time too.

  26. Phod is silly!!!!! We had a yellow lab who would lie so close to the wood stove that he singed his fur - he was a kindred spirit to Phod.

  27. Phantom was like that in the sunshine outside in the HOT summer. Mom would have to make him come inside because he would just lie there and get all heated up. Another silly boy:)

  29. Dear Handsome Phod,

I do that too! Especially when lying in the sunshine in the summer, but sometimes also next to the wood stove belonging to Grandma and Grandpa in the winter. Isn't it nice to feel warm in the winter?
