One of the recommendations from the Behaviourist (that I forgot to mention) was to stop feeding the dogs in dishes and to have 6-10 puzzle toys that they get their food from. Now we are not sure if we want to feed the dogs all their food this way (we think Zaphod would starve because Hailey is so smart and fast she would get all the food). However, we are willing to give them some of their food this away. Currently we have a few, including a traditional kong (which is MIA but is here somewhere) and some actual food puzzles. We are looking for ideas of other tough, proven puzzles so please share your favourites with us!

Note from Lee: Lady says I won't get to visit you all until later today, she needs to do some course this morning and then has to go to the city because her (insert words I am not suppose to repeat - lots of them) iPhone is sick. The home button only works sometimes and it has frustrated her and she wants to get that fixed. See you all later!
Sorry but us kitties don't have a puzzle thingy lol.Take care:-)

We don't use them either. We get fed and that is it. Good luck as you have good point about Phod being out fooded by Lee. Have a super Saturday.

I LOVE dog puzzles by Nino Ottosson! (I am sure Mom misspelled that but you get the idea) Barks and licks and love, Dakota
ReplyDeleteI don't have a food related puzzle only toys...but I've seen lotsa stuff like that in the doggy department at the pet store - I bet you can find some more in addition to that Kong!

It may be fun to use food puzzle for some food or treat!
ReplyDeleteWonder how it will go if you use it for all the food. Definitely don't wanna starve Phod :-)
Sorry, we don't have puzzle toys.....except for the kong and that's for treats.
ReplyDeleteBut some dogs like those things that you have to open a lid to get food.

Nola has the Nina Ottoson Dog Treat Maze (level 2), DogDomino (level 3), and DogSmart (level 1). I put all 3 down on the floor and she's done in 5 minutes, literally. But it takes up to 90 minutes for any of my other 3 to get through them.

I only do the Kong for treats because I'm to lazy to work for my food.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,

Hi hi hi! Ojo here! If we were fed only from puzzles I would starve too! Cobi is very smart and figures out the puzzles. I do not have the patience. But I gotta tell you, I do love a good Kong! Our person stuffs them with wet food, and chunks of apple and things, and then puts them in the FREEZER! This makes a Kongsicle, which is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteCobi likes her orange treat ball that rolls around on the floor and drops food. She will do this for half of a person-hour. I just try to chew on it. She also likes the Kibble Nibble, which is a purple jug that the people got for ME! I can't figure it out, but Cobi will bang that thing around forever, even long after she's gotten all the food out. (This is very annoying, let me tell you!)
So I hear Phod's complaint! Puzzles and working for food is pawesome, but it's gotta be even. Good luck you guys!
Wags and licks,
Ojo
We just got a great puzzle ball in our September BarkBox called the IQ Ball. It's on sale on Amazon and so far, it's held up. It looks and feels pretty durable and you can adjust the difficulty of the puzzle which is nice.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could recommend a good one. If by "good" you mean one that takes more than a nao second to solve then I have no idea. Let me know if you find one that is a bit tougher.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
I have a kong and a wooden puzzle, I keep chomping the wooden one..BOL xx00xx

We have a couple puzzles but we get into a fight over them. We can eat out of the same food dish and get along fine but the puzzle makes us possessive.

My fave is the simple kong. We own about 15 of them, and we freeze dog food in them for our pups. My dog trainer also loves the "Green Bowl". I don't have experience with it but she says that it works very well for her dogs.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of puzzle toys, I don't know the names of all of them. I just went to Amazon and searched for dog puzzles and you will see all sorts.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have puzzle toys so we aren't much help. Maybe mommy needs to buy us some!
