Nature Friday - The Forest Fire

On May 31 Lady and Man became aware of the constant sound of planes flying very low. This is not a usual sound. We walked to get the mail (and see what was going on) and we saw the smoke across the field. There was a fire!

The first picture is one Lady took - you can see the smoke.

This next one is borrowed from Facebook that shows our lake and the fire. If you look to the left of the smoke you can see a point. That is around where we live.

Lady and Man then walked us to beach to watch the water bombers in action. It was amazing to watch these two planes drop into the lake, scoop up water, fly so low you were sure they were going to take out the top of a tree, fly to the fire, drop the water and then circle back to the lake. This whole process took about 2 minutes and went on for about an hour.

In case the video doesn't work, here are a few pictures.

We did not like being on the neighbour's dock and we really, really didn't like the planes being so low. Man took us back to the house while Lady stayed.

We are happy to report their efforts were successful and the fire was quickly put out. No homes were destroyed or people injured. It was a reminder to us that we are not immune from this type of danger. May was the driest May in 75 years. The fire was somewhere between 1-2 km away (.6-1.2 mile). It did occur to Lady as she stood watching and chatting with the neighbours (because everyone was out) that maybe she should be packing for evacuation and not FaceTiming people to show them and making videos! However, it all turned out ok in the end and while it was cool we hope it is a long time before we get to watch the water bombers again.

Thanks to Rosy for organizing this hop.

The Great Slowdown

First from yesterday - Lady was just texting the vet because there was an issue with our upcoming appointments and she had 'bullied' the receptionist to put us in the same appointment. Also, they are friends so they were just catching up! We are both a-okay!

Also Blogger would not let Lady comment yesterday. She tried all the things (which includes screaming HBO words). We did visit you all. Hi!

------------------------------

Hailey is the oldest dog we have had at age 11.5. (Loki died at 8 and Gemi at 6). While she is in good health and young at heart, she is starting to slow down.

She is living her best life and is loving her runs through the fields. Yamini asked if we have to worry about ticks and the answer is yes we do. They are on meds for them and we do a daily tick check.

One day last week, Callie joined us in the field. Her kids left the door open and when she saw us she came running. We offered to bring her back after our walk.

For the first time Hailey had a great up run with Callie.

She was all happy until Miss Callie caught her.

In her youth she was always the fastest. Now mY girl is slowing down. On one hand, this breaks my heart, but on the other it makes me happy because she is listening more and can have more freedom. For now we will just love her and let her live her best life.

Tasty Tuesday- A Sweet Treat

After years of hearing about other pups going for ice cream, we finally got to go! A new ice cream shop opened about 10 minutes away.

We waited in the car with Lady while Man got the goods.

He returned and we couldn't even wait to get out of the car to try it!

The verdict?
Hailey loved it!
Phod was not sure. He was stressed being in the car but even after we returned home, he wouldn't eat it. Hailey thought this was great because she got 2 ice creams!
We hope to go again soon!

Mischief Monday - Too Scary - by Phod

 Dear pals,

I was enjoying a lovely evening stroll through the field when my boy came to join us. He is 5 and lives next door and we are good friends.

Now my boy brought a very scary monster with him. Lady and Man called it a remote controlled car.

It was too scary to be near so I kept my distance.

My boy is a nice boy and he cares very much and when he saw it was a bit scary for me the big orange dog, he picked it up and carried it. Then we could all walk together.

It was a much nicer walk together with friends!

Thanks to Rosy for hosting this hop.

Today we are sharing some of Lady's favourite trees.
