Nature Friday - A Busy Day

Thanks to Rosy for hosting Nature Friday.

It is also Aunty-Yam's FFF!

September 10 was a busy day in our yard.

First, while sitting on the couch Lady spotted this visitor.

Our FFF

He'd been gone so long but we were happy to see,
The local fox healthy and skinny.
Trotting through the yard on his way,
To search for some yummy prey.
We hope he finds enough to eat,
He is a favourite neighbour on the street.

Then later from the same spot on the couch, Lady spotted this:

There were 2 bucks in the yard. Lady didn't get a good picture of them together. They were close enough that they also got captured on the trail cam!

We are so lucky to share our yard with these great animals!

In another, not pictured note - on a morning walk, we came about 15 feet from a big porcupine. Lady dragged us across the street while the porcupine slowly trundled to the bush and up a tree. We really wanted to meet it but Lady said, it could kill us, so no!

  5. We love seeing foxes and deer around here too. So far we haven't seen any bucks but we do have a mom with very young twins (they still have their spots).

  6. Arlo, a wonderful beagle we had some years ago, actually met a porcupine in the woods of Wisconsin and it was not pretty. He ended up with about 20 quills in his snout and forehead. Fortunately, my brother-in-law was carrying a small kit with strong tweezers, almost like pliers. He quickly pulled every quill out of that poor dog.

  7. Clapping wildly to be able to virtually attend your zoo from the comfy lounge chair.
    WOW
    I loved your FFF

  9. The fox does look like he needs square meal. As for the porcupine, Gail tells me she once nearly shared a tent with one (in the Canadian Rockies) and that was far too close...
    Toodle pip!

  10. What nice wildlife neighbors you have! We used to have foxes all the time and deer have actually dropped in a few times but lately not so much. Too much traffic anymore. 😕

  12. We have a family of foxes that cross the green space behind our house in the early morning. It must be nice to see the deer from your window too.

As for porcupines, we think your Mom gave you some very wise advice:)

  14. The fox looks hungry. It's lucky you are both big and strong. Mom is always afraid a fox will eat me in 2 bites. I have to go along with your Lady on the porcupine issue. NOT a good friend for you kids. #steerclear

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  15. You're like me, and I love sharing my yard with the critters. I always love seeing foxes. It means that the bully-coyotes haven't chased them out of the area. And a porcupine! WOW! I've not seen one in so long, I think I'd probably try to get a better/closer look too!

    Have a good week!
