Looking For Comfort In A Storm

Last Wednesday on my work at home day, thunderstorms 42 and 43 of the year (which had us break the record for most thunderstorms in a year) rolled through. Generally, my girl will just go and hide when this happens. She will occasionally look to the Man for comfort. Rarely does she actively seek me out for comfort. For whatever reason during storm 42, she joined me in my office.

I happened to be using the standing feature on my desk when she came in, so she stood up against me.

After awhile I had been standing long enough and wanted to sit down. To do this, I need to move the mat I was standing on. My girl would not move so I could move it, so I ended up rolling it up over her.

She probably stayed under that mat for about 30 minutes before she ventured out. She actually relaxed enough to fall asleep.  It was very cute and not disruptive to my work.

When storm 43 rolled in later that evening, she was not as peaceful. She stood in the kitchen and barked.

I will say that given the record number of storms we have had, I am actually impressed with how well our girl did this year. There were 3 nights we had to be up with her. She only did mild damage to one door frame trying to get in the room when we were out.

Let's hope the storms are behind us for the year and next year isn't as record breaking!

  1. We feel so bad! It is awful when they are afraid during storms. LadyBug was absolutely terrified of storms. It was the worst when we were traveling in the RV down south and we had tornado warnings. She would do just about anything to try and get OUT of the RV! Hope your girl feels better. We tried every single thing we could think of to calm LadyBug down and nothing worked...

  2. Oh I hope there is no trouble when a storm comes up.... maybe we can have a long phoncall together, so we both will not notice the noises of the wild elements?

  3. Sending you lots of hugs Lee, wish those nasty storms didn't worry you!
    Loves and licky kisses

Both sympathies and congrats Lee - sorry you have such troubles, but glad you did't let them bother you so much! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. I hate the storms too, Hailey. I hope that was your last storm for the year!

  6. We sure hope the storms are over and poor Miss Lee gets some peace and quiet.

  7. Lee bless your little heart. Mom can sure identify with your tstrom issues.
Girl we had a big tstorm last night. It dumped 3.2" of rain in about 1 1/2 hours. Flash flooding around the area too. Hugs madi your bfff

  8. Sorry you are scared of the storms.
We don't like it when the thunder cracks,
    even mom gets nervous then.
Lets pray for more sunshine :)

  9. It's been a record year for weather of ALL types this year......we hope "normal" (whatever that is!) comes back next year.....we're tired of all the surprises!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

  10. Storms are very hard on us. I hate storms. stellie rose

  11. We hope the bad storms are all behind you for a while now!

  12. We have the potential for severe weather this weekend - we sure hope they are wrong.

Maybe that mat is a good comfort tool for Hailey - wrap her up in again:)

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  13. We're sorry to hear Hailey has issues with the storms but it does sound like she's getting a little better about it.

  14. Apparently the mat gave her some comfort. Hope the storms are done for this year

  15. We're sorry to hear you have had so many storms this year. The good news is that winter is on its way so the thunder won't be around for a while.

  16. Wow! That is a lot of thunder storms! We have a lot of rain here in Vancouver but never thunder storms! That was sweet that Hailey took comfort from being close to you :) We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

  17. She did well. I found that putting three drops of Frankincense essential oil on my hands and warming then rubbing around her throat and ears calms Abby immensely. It doesn't work for all dogs, but it's worth a try.

  18. Oh gurl, bless your heart! Those suck I'm sure....butts you are very brave, and I give you a high-paw for your bravery this storm season!! and a pitcher of margaritas...of course...☺

  19. Hope da storms are gone for a while!

  20. Wow! That's a lot of storms! We're glad Hailey is getting a little better at handling them. (I just bark at thunderstorms.)

  21. So sorry you have a pup terrified of thunderstorms. Having had one of those guys in the past, my sympathies for what you go through. Keeping our paws crossed your t-storms will take a long vacation and stay away.
