Today is the day we celebrate our planet and all the things we can do to try and help it. The humans on the planet haven't always been kind and have done some damage. But rather than getting depressed about it, we are going to all work together to find ways to help it. If you need ideas be sure to visit http://blogvillearts.blogspot.ca where Louis has put together all we are doing to help the planet.
I was personally most reminded of the need to do more to save the planet on my trip to Iceland in 2015.
Here I am standing on a glacier. Our guide said the glacier is receding 50-100 feet per year.
The place it was most apparent that we must work together to help our planet and probably one of the most amazing, beautiful places I have ever been:
While sitting looking at the icebergs, I wondered if my niece (who was 1 at the time) would ever be lucky enough to sit and enjoy the beauty of this place. Would they all be melted by the time she travelled the world?
I know the enormity of the task of reversing all the damage is overwhelming, but I believe the little steps we can take at home can make a difference. I challenge everyone to find one thing they can do this week that will help protect the planet. Nothing is too small! Together we can change the future!
If everyone commits to small daily changes - a few meatless meals, a bit of recycling, re-using plastic items, taking an extra litter bag when walking, etc. - I too think we can make a difference. You glacier photos are like the pics we take of the reefs underwater - snapshots of Earth we hope our descendants will still be able to see in the future. Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteGreat post - yes we can all do something. Today I joined a 'Pedal on Parliament' rally in Aberdeen, aimed at trying to get better facilities for cyclists and so encourage people to use their bicycles rather than drive everywhere.

ReplyDeleteYes indeed, one small step, made in unison, is one giant leap!!! YAM xx
Wow - how beautiful the glacier and icebergs are! We all need to pitch in and make a difference! Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I agree with you about the small steps. We can all do our part - though I know it is easy to get discouraged and feel like it is hopeless, but we all need to keep trying and do our best.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and good advice too. (Ghostwriter has always wanted to go to Iceland. Maybe one of these years she will.)

We enjoy the beautiful outdoors and our earth so much, and are always trying to do things to help it. I agree that every little bit can help.

That was a great reminder. We can all help a bit. After all, it's the only planet we have.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much we are destroying our own planet! Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,

We do meatless several times a week, have a burlap shopping bag with handles to take to the grocery, and dry our clothes on a line except in the most bitter cold (our walk out basement has a clothes line across the laundry room down there.) Even little things help. I do have a big gas hog truck, but it is needed for a major historic home remodel. Since I work from home all but four days a month, I use very little gas.
ReplyDeleteEvery little bit helps if only everyone would do at least that one little bit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
Happy Earth Day.

Those glaciers are beautiful. We hope everyone can help slow down their melting.
ReplyDeleteExquisite and beautiful icebergs. Fingers crossed it's not too late for all of today's one year olds will get to enjoy them 25 years from now.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
