Wildlife Encounters

Lee sniffing under the deck, something is living under there

Besides our normal deer, groundhog (including the biggest one I have ever seen and we call Buffet) and bird encounters, we have had some animal adventures. None of which are photographed because walking with 3 dogs with wildlife makes it unsafe to photograph.

Here are some recent encounters.

-A coyote was dead in the middle of the road and Hailey had to bark at it the first day. It was there for about 4 days. Now Hailey wants to pee on the road where it.

-About 8 feet from us a skunk came out of the ditch. It was lifting it's tail but was not pointing at us. I froze. It looked at us, put the tail down and ran away. We stood (well I stood, Emma stood and Phod stood while Hailey jumped and screamed) in that spot until it was far away.

-We encountered a wild turkey and her brood of babies on a road. I just turned us around and we went the other way.

-We caught a mouse in our humane trap in our house. The Man took the poor little thing for a drive to release it.

Do you have any wildlife encounters on your walks?

  5. You have a very rich wildlife! Probably I'd be most scared of skunk...especially if it's lifting the tail!

  7. I would be rolling all over the road where the dead coyote was, Hailey! I like to smell good☺ We haven't seen any other wildlife on our walks since that skunk that chased us.

  8. Occasionally, we see kangaroos or wallabies, but mostly we see lots of birds. SHE sympathises with walking three dogs. Keep up that muscle work!

  9. We run into lots of rabbits on our walks. Once in a while a deer comes running through, and sadly just last week a young one got killed trying to cross the busy street. We hear there have been coyotes around and we do smell skunks sometimes, but luckily we have not seen one.

  10. Mom and I saw 3 dead garter snakes in the 3 months we've lived here. The other day, we almost saw a 4th one, except it was a shoelace.

  13. OMD...Mama had a wildlife encounter with a skunk last year...your encounter ended much better smelling than hers did! We sometimes hunt the voles that live under our deck...but that is about it!

  16. For living just 3 miles from the center of downtown Denver, there is a surprising amount of wildlife in our hood. Raccoons, foxes, skunks, falcons, owls and we've even had a trio of white tail deer tromping through the garden. It's a regular zoo around here. 😆

  17. The local wildlife, including the Evil Squirrel Cartel, the Conniving Chipmunk Consortium, and lots of birdies visit us in our yard, especially when we fill the bird feeders.
