Nature Friday - Snow Contest Update

Thanks to Rosy for hosting this event!

Today is our first check in and the date of our first guess by Nelly and Phenny.
These pictures were taken at lunch yesterday, it was raining a lot.

Things are starting to grow! (Lady planted a lot of bulbs, let's see what we get).

This is the front yard:

This is the backyard:

Now it has rained a lot and is going to rain more, but if Lady was to guess, the snow won't be gone by the end of the day.  If Lady was going to guess, she would say, looking at how fast it has melted the last few days, the snow will be gone next week, which would mean Susan, with April 21 would be the winner.

We are hoping June is wrong! (Thanks to June for this submission!)

Stay tuned to find out when it is gone!

Tasty Thursday - Phod's Birthday Treats - by Lee

 Dear pals,

Last Saturday, Lady and I set out to make Phod some bake-a-bone cookies. As you saw on Monday, he wasn't the best behaved dog on his birthday and then on Saturday, in a 45 second period while Man was explaining 'again' to Lady on how to work the generator in case she is home alone and needs it, Phod came back covered in turkey poop. This landed him in the shower with the Man.

Let's get baking!

I thought given that things were not coming up Phody, we should make him some treats.

Lady picked a beef and oat recipe from the book. She put all the things together under my supervision.

Lady needs close supervision in the kitchen.

Every 8 minutes for the next half hour or so, I made sure she took out the cooked ones and put in batter for new ones. We made 20 cookies in the end, some we will have to freeze as for some reason Lady said that was too many to eat in a short period of time.

After 87 million years, some of the first batch were ready to eat.

Let's eat!

I thought since I helped, I should get the first cookie, but I had to wait for Phod.

He did what he always does with new treats, assumes they are poison (in his defence, there was one time he was offered a marshmallow and he is terrified of new treats ever since), and took it away to check it out.

New treats need to be tried here, to make sure they are safe.

After a good sniff, he decided to try them and he loved them.

I loved them more.

The best, helpful sister, Lee

Trouble On A Tuesday - Let Me Scratch - By Phod

Dear pals,

Last week, I managed to really, really scratch my ears up on the ice and snow. I wouldn't stop rubbing them and they were getting really bad. So for a few days to let them heal this happened:

Note both rubber boots and winter boots by the door, this is the season we are in!

Every time I got to go out off leash, I had to wear the cone of shame.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to rub my ears in the snow with it. I had no luck.

Fortunately, after a few days, my ears healed and this torture was over.

Lady says if this continues one of two things will happen: I will have to wear the cone more or I will have to go back on the expensive allergy pills. Both sound horrible to me.

Your deeply tortured Phod

Mischief Monday - Not As Advertised

Last Friday, the dogs were left alone in the morning for maybe 1.5 hours. On my way to work, I was dropping the Man off at the garage to pick up his car (it is winter tire removal time!)

Man came home to this:

Our fancy, expensive touchless garbage pail is totally broken. Seems the birthday boy  had different ideas about celebrating or pulling an April Fool's Joke!

When I was searching for a new one, I found this description.

Clearly not true in our case!  The replacement should arrive midweek, and will always be left on the counter when we go out!

No Fooling - Phod is 11

Ok, maybe there is some fooling as we don't know for sure when Phod's birthday is, but today is the day we celebrate. We picked today because it is also Aunt K's birthday!

Happiest of birthdays to our sweetest bear. May your golden years be ones you shine in.

What do you mean I need to stop rolling and pose for my official birthday picture.

How is this?

Or this?

Nature Friday on Thursday

Thanks to Rosy for hosting this. We are posting a day early because tomorrow is Phod's birthday!

Recently we have been showing you a group of wild turkeys that have made our yard their home. All the turkeys we showed were female.

Last week, the male showed up. Lady calls him Charles.

Even when he isn't showing off, he is a big guy!

We wonder how long it will be before we have baby turkeys?
