Mischief Monday - Rain, Rain, Rain by Phod

Dearest friends,

When I sit down to write this there is some serious flooding in the city of Gatineau, Quebec, about 30 km (18 miles) from our house (it is where the Man works). 390 homes have been evacuated, 689 people have left voluntarily, 142 pets are being helped by the Red Cross, almost 300 000 sand bags have been filled, over 117 mm (4.5 inches) of rain has fallen since May 1 and now 80 members of the military have arrived to help out.  This follows the 7th snowiest winter on record and the 2nd wettest April on record. The highway Man and Lady use to get to town is now closed due to flooding. The government has closed the offices in Gatineau (meaning Man has the day off) and are begging people to not use the bridges over to Ontario, meaning Lady is working from home instead of going to the office.

Up here in the hills, it is wet but not dangerously so. We did have some water pooling near the base of the house in spots and it was getting high so the Man went out and dug some trenches and our little problem was solved.

I don't really like to be wet in the house and because the Man and Lady have been closing their bedroom door so I can't roll all over their bed to dry off (that really isn't nice) and because we don't have carpet, I have been doing my best to find suitable places to sit.

Lady laughed at me for picking the mat by her sink in the bathroom. I think it is the perfect fit!

Join us in sending good thoughts to all those who are seriously affected by the flooding in our area. The rain is suppose to stop today (and be rather light at only 5-10 mm) but a cold front is moving in and we have had some snow.

I think the weather is broken!  But I have my Precious so I will be ok!

Your pal, Phod

  6. We have lots of flooding on our side of Lake Ontario too. People are needing to move out of their homes. The Lake is eating away at the shoreline and houses look like they're going to slide right off the bank and into the water! We're glad we don't live too close to the Lake. Today we finally have a break from the rain! Hooray! I hope things start to dry out for everyone now.

  13. It does sound like you have broken weather. Though we're happy you aren't affected too much, we feel sorry for the other people...and pets. Sometimes SHE puts down towels...dog towels...for us to roll on or sleep on.

  17. Phod, it looks as though your choice of the bathroom mat might be a little protest to your denied entrance to the bed linens!! ;p

It does look as though the weather is broken everywhere, Phod! Here in Vancouver, it was so hot yesterday that people were wearing summer clothes and sandals and today, we are back in our winter coats!!
We are sending the people who have had to leave their homes lots of love and support. That would be hard.

  18. So sorry, you guys. Hope you are able to stay safe and dry. We had a killer of a hail storm blast through a couple hours ago. I think my car will be totaled by the insurance company and I just had my roof replaced late last summer. 😟 Always something in the Rocky Mountains.

  22. I have been watching the flooding all across Canada. it is flooding in Midway too! Thank heavens where Cinnamon, Kozmo and Jo Jo are living with their Dad is on the high side of the river! It has flooded on the other side of the Kettle River but our side is still OK. We are praying there is no more rain as the heat is melting the snow in the mountains. Rain will cause more flooding.
I am praying for you guys down east too.
    Love Barb

  26. We have been getting so much rain as well, but not nearly as bad as that. Our thoughts are with all those that are much more affected by this nasty weather than we are (and we are glad it is not as bad where you are).

  27. I'm sending lots of prayers and love to those affected by the flooding. Also, I'm glad that you and your family are together and safe. You look adorable on your mat. Sounds like you need a blanket or two on the floor for you and Hailey to curl up in and get comfy.
