Zaphod In The Beginning - Part 3

Phod came to join at our pack at a fairly chaotic time. We had just moved 5 days before. We were still getting settled in.

Our house is basically a loft style home, so it is very easy to call to another person and they would hear you where you are. As we were unpacking and doing things in different rooms we called a lot to each other, things like "Where is the . . . .?"  "Have you seen the . . . .?" and other unpacking phrases. Even in our loft house, we have to raise the volume of our voice so we can be heard. When we would raise our voices, our poor boy would shake and pee on the floor. He was clearly terrified. Raising your voice was paired with something scary. We never punished him for this behaviour, we would just clean up the pee and try and comfort him. It broke my heart.

These days, he doesn't react the same to a raised voice. We can call each other in the house without a reaction. If we raise our voice directed at him (in the rare time he is misbehaving, usually if he is thinking about leaving the yard), he will push his ears back and give you sad eyes, but isn't as fearful. He has come a long way!

Here is a video of my boy trying to walk in the melting snow:)

Walking in the melting snow is hard!

Don't forget to send us your pictures of you fooling around. Our email is leeandphodATbellDOTnet.

  1. I bet that's a super good sign that Phod feels at home and as a part of your furmily when he is no londer fearful abbout raised voices :o) Our timing was special too, Easy moved in while his crib was a construction site... but I learnt an important lesson that way: you can't do ikea while having a pup on your lap :o)

  6. We don't like it when Dad yells at the TV during football games. We run and hide in ghostwriter's office. We're glad Phod is living with such a nice family now.

  7. YAY Phodie.....you have come a long way dear boy! I agree about trying to walk on melting snow - NOT EASY.....most of the time the snow here gets a crust on it after a day or two and I can walk on top of it - if it starts melting I just go right through and I do NOT like that!

    Hugs, Sammy

  9. You've come such a long way, Phod! That's such a moving story. It's so sad to think that someone had made the poor boy so fearful, but it's so wonderful that his happy life with you has helped him overcome his early life. Love the melting snow walk!

  13. We're glad Phod isn't afraid any more. We know how tough it can be to walk when you keep punching through that deep snow.

  16. Oh Phod we feel for you. Tuiren didn't bark for the first 6 months she lived with us. She never made a sound except for an occasional whine, We honestly thought her vocal chords may have been cut. One night she started barking (it sounded more like someone being murdered) and Daddy yelled at her to be quiet. She started shaking, Daddy drug Mommy out of bed to comfort her. She is much better now and knows that even when she gets in trouble she is still loved and will not be hurt. Sounds as if you have learned that too.
