The hills are alive with the smell of trilliums! They have a beeswax type smell and it is lovely in the morning and evening.
White trillium's are Ontario's provincial flower (our is the iris). It is illegal to pick them in Ontario. Most of the ones around us are white, but you do see the occasional purple one!

A beautiful flower. Remember once visiting the Leelanau penisula (n.w. Michigan), walking in a woods, the ground a blanket of trillium ... absolutely spectacular, and the scent the same!

ReplyDeleteI never realised these had such a fine smell - though I have seen many a photograph of them. Very pretty and always best left in place - wild flowers never do well in a vase! ReplyDeleteas far as I know I have never seen a trillium, they do look beautiufl. we have several things here in FL that are illegal to pick, in fact all wild flowers on our beaches, and sea oats are on the list.
ReplyDeleteWe have never seen trillium on our property but there is a nature preserve near us where they grow. You sure have lots of them.
