Project Hailey - A Fail

This is the mess we came home to on Friday evening. It has been nearly 7 years since Lee went through the wall.

Last week we had a series of thunderstorms roll in. Hailey made the choice to start peeing on the basement floor, which meant Phod started peeing on her pee on the basement floor. So on Friday, I blocked the basement stairs before I left for work. I closed the bathroom door as I always do (as Phod likes bathroom garbage).

A storm rolled through in the afternoon and when the Man got home, this had happened. She had clearly cut her foot doing it (but not serious enough to require medical attention).

We happened to be having brunch with our vet and his family on Saturday, so we discussed this. Hailey has been on 20mg of Prozac. We tried 40, but it was too much for her. So he prescribed another 10 and we will try 30. He is also going to look for other medications we could give her if we knew a storm was coming and we weren't going to be home.

Of course this was followed by a very stressful weekend for her. We had our niece and nephew here all weekend. Plus there were fireworks. One night, so she wouldn't wake the kids up, the Man sat with her in the bathroom. The next, he just carried her to bed and made her sleep (I missed all of this as I was with the kids).

We are feeling a bit defeated again, and we have a gaping reminder of her stress. We hope the increase in meds, plus us leaving the basement open and moving the bathroom garbage will prevent her from needing to destroy our house.

This is such a shame. I feel for you all - sending some POTP for fearlessness to Hailey - and some to the peeps for Hope! YAM xx

  2. oh how sad... poor Lee and poor you... we hope so much that the meds help and that your vet maybe can find something what helps her too when storms or special situations happen... hugs to the man that was very nice to help Lee through a scary night...

  3. i feel bad for you and your hubby but even worse for Hailey. I have been a fearful person all my life and full understand fears... and a dog can't talk or do anything. I think leaving the doors open is a good thing. Big has places he feels safer than in others. one is under my computer desk, the other is in the L shape up against the breakfast bar. we have not had to leave him home alone during a storm, so have no idea whay he will do. we did leave Jake in his crate once and he harmed his leg trying to get out and it never healed. so don't even try a crate. makes it worse.. poor Hailey

  8. How awful for you and Phod and your peeps, Hailey. I hate thunderstorms too and fireworks too but it's not as bad as you have it. I hope you can find peace. The "horrible" season is here for a bit.

  9. Oh dear Hailey, poor you. We know that Lady and the Man are doing their best to help you deal better with the stresses of life, and have paws and fingers crossed that you can find a level of medication which helps.
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie (and Gail).
PS We had a colossal thunderstorm here on Saturday evening, a most unusual occurrence in this part of the world. Fortunately for both Gail and me, I am able to take all the crashes and bangs in my stride.

  10. OMGoodness, H. Looks like you are a frustrated construction worker. Problem is - your parents don't need a contractor right now. Well, actually, NOW they do! Ugh. Please feel better with your new medicines. Mom and I will say prayers for you.

    Love and licks,

  11. 'happened to be having brunch with the vet and his family'......sheesh! But at least you could discuss the problem. Hope you come up with a solution. Holes in walls are severe.

  12. Holy cow! Glad she wasn't hurt. It's heartbreaking seeing how phobias manifest themselves. I hope she receives some relief. Have you tried CBD oil?

  13. Oh no! I'm so sorry about Hailey. That sucks so bad. Fears and phobias are no fun.

  17. Oh Lee, hope the peeps can get your meds adjusted for you. Thunder does not bother us too much unless it is real close but fireworks are another thing. Not looking forward to the next few nights
