Mischief Monday - Mother Nature

This week's mischief award goes to Mother Nature. Last Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, we had a big snowstorm. Overnight we got about 15 inches of snow, during the day we got about another 5 or 6, and then overnight Wednesday we got 1-2. It was a lot! It makes us especially envious of all our friends who are starting to see signs of spring in their yards. We are still fully in winter!

We knew this big storm was coming so basically the city pre-emptively shut down. All the schools were closed, including the universities. Ottawa (as the capital of Canada), is a big government town and all non-essential employees were asked to stay home (working from home if possible). Garbage collection was delayed. Even Canada Post would not deliver mail that day.

Lady and Man both worked from home. While they were both working (and didn't just take a snow day), we all did take some time to play in the snow (and they spent a lot of time shovelling!)

There is normally a very big step from the deck to the ground. If a person was just to step out, they would sink to mid thigh at least!

You can see how high the snow banks are and how much snow is on the back deck

This picture (taken between the first time the Man snow blowed and the second) shows Hailey Bug digging through the snow to find some spilt bird seed!

  1. Wow! That's two foot of snow. Where do you put it all? Gail hopes that Lady and Man's backs are OK after all that shovelling. Our weather in NE Scotland has been mild and sunny this past week.

  4. Oh my word Lady, Man, Phod and Lee
I would have cried like a baby if I saw all that snow in my yard.
We are not prepared for that much in the city. Back in the early 1990's we awoke to heavy snow about 10" it snowed all day too. We had about 18". The city was shut down for nearly a week.

  10. Well....if Canada shut down, it must be a huge amount of snow. LOL! Naturally, we've gone back to 38°C after a week of much lower temps. Seems like Mother Nature is not letting go of the weather in either hemispheres at the moment. Guess you just have to get out there and enjoy that snow.

  11. That looks so beautiful! But I'd hate to be the one snow blowing it. Or walking in it. I don't allow snow to touch my belly! #carryme

  12. Whoa - that's way more snow than we have ever seen!!! We would just love it too. We have another storm coming tomorrow night, and so the kids will be out of school again - lots of snow days this year.

  13. WOWZERS, that's a lot of snow! I want to say how lucky you are, but my mom, who is typing this, is shuddering for some reason. Hmm.

  14. Holy snowblower! I'm ashamed to whine about the few inches we received overnight. Stay warm and safe.

  15. We have a bit of snow left on the grass around the neighborhood. The streets are clear up here in Vancouver. But you have way more snow than us.
