Trouble Tuesday - The Bed Is Not Big Enough

About 6 months after moving into our house (so just over 5 years ago), we upgraded to a king sized bed. Normally, Hailey is the only one who shares this bed with us. Generally, she sleeps at the bottom, but if she judges it is too cold, she will curl up behind our legs. Once she is settled, she is a very difficult lump to move. One dog was ok in the bed. We could make that work.

Cousin Emma (who at the time this goes live will have been with us 125 days, with 47 to go) would really like to be held all night. This isn't happening in our house, so she has decided sleeping at the top in the middle, rotating who she is pressed up against is her place.

Then there is Phod. Generally, he does not share the bed with us, but he may be a little jealous of Emma and is spending more time (usually just while we are falling asleep on the bed, he never spends the whole night, he gets too hot). If he is on the bed, he is taking up my spot (although if I try hard I can push him to the middle, even though he makes a face like I am beating him). This then forces Emma to either my left side or the Man's feet.

Many nights I fall asleep in what I call the dog burrito. Emma to my left, Phod to my right, Lee on my feet. I can barely move.

I look forward to only having one dog in the bed. Then it may be big enough!

  1. even one dog is a challenge sometimes... Phenny sleeps on me, wrapped around my neck like a snake (35 kilos).... maybe to sleep on the dog pillow is a way to wake up without weird feeling legs LOL

Hehehehe, angels Jade and Jasper loved to make sure I was always teetering on falling out of bed. It was part of their very impawtant duties as human-lovers, apparently... YAM xx

  4. Bailey was the only one that liked sharing the bed. The girls find it too warm and we are too restless for them. They much prefer sleeping on the floor or on one of the mats.

  5. Burrito that was funny...
Earlier in her life Madi liked to sleep between legs and once asleep she felt like a 500 lb gorilla. Thankfully she no longer likes to be on the bed but her Dad often awakes with her sitting on the bedside table staring at him.
    47 more sleeps

  6. Miss Ginger used to sleep on the pile of magazines on the floor next to ghostwriter's bed. That was her favorite spot!

  11. That sure is a full bed. We have a king sized bed too and with only the two of us we all fit pretty well. Our mom says that when they had our GSD angel sisters they wouldn't stay all night on the bed either for the same reason Phod doesn't. Those fluffy shepherd coats were just too hot to sleep with.

  13. Is there a bigger bed than a king? I think that Phod may not be leaving!

  15. I like to sleep in the middle between Mom and Dad. Hazel spends most the night in her bed at the top of the bed ramp or down by Mom's feet. In the morning she will go up to Dad's pillow.

  16. There are times with three dogs that I imagine even a KING is WAY too small!
