Two weeks ago, the Man took our boy to the vet because he wouldn't stop scratching his ear. We are happy to report that the ear meds (which is he off now) and the daily Reactine has cleared up the problem. There is no more scratching, and his ear is healed. We will be continuing to use a special solution to clean his ear twice a week. He will also stay on Reactine until at least the end of the month, where we will stop, hopefully until spring. We believe his allergies are seasonal and environmental. Of course, if he needs daily Reactine all year, he will have it.
I am laughing because after about 30 years of daily allergy meds (including like 20 years with Reactine), I am now down to half a pill once or twice a week, and now my dog may be on it daily! Well, we have plenty as I buy it at Costco!
We are just happy the problem is not more serious. He is happier too!

We're so glad Phod's ear is all better. What a pain that was! My patron saint, Old Charisma had terrible allergies and ear infections too. Joey dog had polyps in his ears, and it seemed like he always had some kind of ear infection. I am very lucky so far. My cocker spaniel ears are nice and pink and clean and I've never had an infection. (I hope I didn't jinx it now.)
ReplyDeleteThat IS good news, even if ironic. Thank goodness for good old Costco, eh? 😍 Extra ear scratches of affection for your boy.
ReplyDeletePhod just lookie at those handsome proud G.S. ears. Yay for no more itching and OMCs if you or your Lady run out of allergy meds...you can share. LOL too funny. Amazing the human meds we pets can take. I'm on a 1/2 pepcid in the evening and 1/8 tsp of Miralax mixed in my food 2 x a day. And if my belly button gets itchy maybe I can share mom's bb med.

ReplyDeleteWe saw on a Vet show a dog with itchy ears. Turned out the pup's owner was away for a few weeks and a friend was minding him. The owner had a motorbike and the dog always road with him. The vet said the wind in his ears always kept the dog's ears dry and healthy....but the weeks without riding allowed bacteria in to fester. We think Man should get a motorbike....or Skidoo....just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteThat is good news!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear Phod's ears have cleared up!
