Happy Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Today is one of the Man's favourite days. He will be off trick or treating with our human cousins. Lady will stay home with us, not that it matters as we get 0 trick or treaters out in the country.

Here we are in our costumes for the parade. Be sure to go to Murphy and Stanley's and Oreo's to see everyone looking spooktacular.

We present - Phod the reluctant Geisha!

Maybe if I smile this will be over sooner

and Angel Hailey!
I am always an angel, not sure this is a costume!

Flower Friday - Fall Style

We join Rosy for Flower Friday. We don't have any flowers but keeping with our fall theme this week we are sharing the foliage in our back yard.

Same tree a week later!

It is the prettiest time to live in the hills! This year I guess because of the weather the leaves are more yellow and orange. there are very few reds.

I Thought We Had Been Bee-ing Good?

The Bumble Bee said to the Lady Bug: "If there was one in the house I would pee on the rug, to make up for the humiliation of this task. Who thinks this is fun and cute I must ask?"

The Lady Bug said to the Bumble Bee "Shut up, stay still and you will see, she will soon grow bored and put the flashy beast away. We will get lots of treats so it won't be such a bad day."

Shopping Around The World - Pumpkin

We are excited that the Lady got her act together and shopping around the world was actually something Lady can cook (thanks Phenny for picking something in her wheelhouse!).  For those of you who don't cook, if Lady can make this it is super easy.

You need:
Stock/Broth - Lady likes to use vegetable as she is eating less meat.
Pumpkin - Lady is way to lazy to cut up a pumpkin so she buys a can of filling. She gets 100% pure pumpkin.
Cream - Lady uses a can of coconut milk instead because she is on a low dairy diet.
Garlic (optional) - Lady has already minced garlic (that is how lazy a cooker she is)
Curry paste or other spices - Lady likes a little curry paste for kick
Salt - a dash will do
Onion - Lady used about half the onion - she is picky about how she likes her onion (man as we write this we see how complicated all her food stuff is)
Oil - Because she loves it and it is healthy she used avocado oil this day, but you can use whatever you have

What you need

More of what you need

Here is how to make it:

Dice the onion and brown it in a pot with the oil. This is the hardest step we promise.

Dump in all the other ingredients.

Stir and let simmer. Lady usually simmers it for about 30 minutes.

There you have Lazy Lady's pumpkin soup!

Lady didn't get all the prices but she guesses the whole pot was about $10 Canadian (the pumpkin, the coconut milk and stock each being between $2-$3 plus the little bits of the other stuff she had). The pot makes up 4 lunches for her, so that is like $2.50 per serving (or $1.98 US and 1.68 Euros at the time she prepared this post!)

Creepy!

When I was going through my fall pictures of the pups, this one jumped out at me. I wasn't sure what to do with it, but thought given how creepy Phod looks, it would be perfect for our week of fall and Halloween!

Mischief Monday - Fall Edition

Lady had a plan to get a beautiful picture of us in the yard with the fall leaves. She wants us to have a full week and a bit of fall/Halloween fun on the blog.

We did not cooperate. We told her it is because the tree she picked (the one she always picks) wasn't that pretty yet.

Here is how we caused mischief.

First Phod didn't want to stay.

Then we pretended their was something very interesting going on over at the neighbours.

Then we thought if this was Halloween themed we would pretend to be a two headed dog!

She gave up and let us go and play in the yard.  She never got the picture she wanted, but we were very happy with them!

Flower Friday and Some Updates

We join Rosy for Flower Friday. Because she is super lazy and hasn't taken new pictures still has some beautiful rose pictures from Oregon, we are sharing one of those!

Some updates:
Phod has allergies and will be going on a new treatment to help his ears. We will talk more about that later.
Looks like cousin Emma is moving in for about 6 months in the New Year. This gives us some time to prepare!

We look forward to catching up with you all soon! We have been doing some reading without commenting. Lady has lost some of her reading time to her physiotherapy exercises she has to do everyday!

Updated: Ear Troubles by Phod

Dear Friends,

As you know I am a very good boy. I listen. I love my my people and my LeeLee and my Precious.

I have a bit of a problem with being itchy. Lady and Man changed my food to a yummy fish food and that seemed to help a little. However, I have one itchy spot that is very itchy. It is my right ear.

I have had ear infections before and Lady and Man have done their best to keep my ears clean, but this right ear has been very itchy. I have itched it so much Lady says it is now a bloody mess. So now when I am home alone, I must wear the lamp shade. It is not even Halloween!

I am the saddest boy ever.

Pod

Editor's note: One day of the cone while we were at work and you can already see his ear healing. I am hoping he will only need to wear it for a few days.

Editor's update: This morning it was very swollen so the Man and Phod are off to the vet. Paws crossed.

Mischief Monday - Mouse Relocation Express 2017

Hello fellow animals lovers,

The express being washed out for the next customers
As may occur in many of our homes, as the weather gets cooler, some of our critter friends, mainly mice decided it is time to move in. We never had a mouse problem when our cats were alive. The winter after they died we caught 32. Hailey would like to go on record and say two of those were her catches.

The mouse season has begun. To date we have been able to happily relocated 2/3 mice who have made it into our humane trap. The first customer somehow got stuck and was seriously injured, and was helped to the bridge. The other two rode the rails together. At about 3:30 am last Thursday, Hailey raced loudly to the kitchen (the express is kept under the sink). She was carrying on such that the Man got up and looked and saw we had two passengers. They had to wait for the car to leave around 6 am where they were driven a few kilometres away before teas was served at home. If you release them near the house, they just come back in.

We will see how many mice we relocate this year!

Looking For Comfort In A Storm

Last Wednesday on my work at home day, thunderstorms 42 and 43 of the year (which had us break the record for most thunderstorms in a year) rolled through. Generally, my girl will just go and hide when this happens. She will occasionally look to the Man for comfort. Rarely does she actively seek me out for comfort. For whatever reason during storm 42, she joined me in my office.

I happened to be using the standing feature on my desk when she came in, so she stood up against me.

After awhile I had been standing long enough and wanted to sit down. To do this, I need to move the mat I was standing on. My girl would not move so I could move it, so I ended up rolling it up over her.

She probably stayed under that mat for about 30 minutes before she ventured out. She actually relaxed enough to fall asleep.  It was very cute and not disruptive to my work.

When storm 43 rolled in later that evening, she was not as peaceful. She stood in the kitchen and barked.

I will say that given the record number of storms we have had, I am actually impressed with how well our girl did this year. There were 3 nights we had to be up with her. She only did mild damage to one door frame trying to get in the room when we were out.

Let's hope the storms are behind us for the year and next year isn't as record breaking!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The second Monday in October is Thanksgiving in Canada.

To all our Canadian friends and readers, happy Thanksgiving! May it be filled with love, laughter and a little too much turkey.

Here is a list of some of the things we are thankful for: (can you guess whose is whose?)

1. Precious
2. When Lady feeds me right at 6:30
3. Emma is home so she is no longer stealing my toys
4. Long walks
5. Grass to roll in
6. Bed naps
7. Belly rubs
8. When Lady feeds us because she puts a cookie on top
9. Off leash time
10. Having lots of babies to play with
11. ALL OF YOU!

Lady says she is also thankful that most of her life problems are truly 'first world problems' like not being able to use iMessage anymore or when someone accidentally lost the power cord to her video camera at work. Both are annoying in the short term, but when those are your problems, you are living a good life!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

THANK YOU!

While I am behind on visiting (as always - if only I didn't work), I wanted to send my heartfelt thanks to all of you for reading this blog.  While I don't really follow my blog stats, I do occasionally peak for fun and can't believe I now have over one million page views on my 2351 posts. While my mom is a big fan, I know she hasn't visited that often!

On this, our Thanksgiving weekend, I am extra thankful for my readers, fellow bloggers turned friends, and the awesome community I get to be a part of.  I never imagined the impact a blog to cope with my slightly crazy dog would have on my life.  Thank you for sharing the good, the bad, and sometimes ugly aspects of our lives.

A grateful Lady

Toys, Toys, Toys

Phod and Lee are happy to have a few toys out. Cousin Emma (who is with us for a week) wants them all out. It drives me crazy to have all the toys out. I have a video of her being crazy with the toy box, but it won't let me upload it here so imagine a little girl dragging a toy box around!

Once the toys are out, Phod doesn't like to share. He has developed a very passive way to keep all the toys to himself.

What a boy!

Traveling Tuesday - The Forest

While I could spend the rest of my life walking beaches, the Man would spend his in the forest. Don't get me wrong, I love trees too, but my heart belongs in the water. Last week I featured the beach, today I am featuring the forest!

If you happen to be in the Tillomook Oregon forest area, be sure to stop by the visitor centre. We learned a lot about the Tillomook burn which destroyed 350 000 acres in 1933, the subsequent fires and how they have reforested the area. It is really cool to drive by parts and see signs that say 'planted in 1956' or planted in '1998'. The forest grows quickly.

Here are some pictures from the Tillomook Oregon area.

The Man walking on a very hot day

These reminded me of orang-utan arms

These is near the Cape Meares Light house:

So wanted to climb it!

The Tillomook burn was started by humans. Together we can prevent forest fires!

Thank you for joining us on our trip to Oregon. We had such a wonderful time exploring the state and catching up with our pals at mini-Bar!
