Mischief Monday - A Terrible Trick - by Lee

Dearest Friends,

Our people played a horrible trick on us on Saturday. After only giving Phod half his breakfast (he let them know he was still hungry, he never has done that before and they ignored him), our peeps put us in the car. They said that we were going to the park. We were excited. Phod threw up, even though he had half breakfast 6 hours earlier.

We did get to the park and we had a great time playing and making friends.

Me and not Phod but a Phod like dog

Phod loved rolling in and eating the snow

Getting ready to play

Phod chasing me
There were a lot of dogs because it was a beautiful day - with the windchill about -5C/23F, but I admit getting Phod to chase me was my favourite thing. At one point he was laying in the snow and I was jumping over him like a hurdle. Lady says if I could be trusted at home, this could happen more often.

Anyway, after a lovely run in the snow in the sun, we got back into the car and the car stopped at the V-E-T. It was time for my annual check up.

Waiting for Woody

In our case, check up means the vet, Woody, who is a good friend of the family, and the peeps chat, while I get checked out. Woody said I look great and to keep doing what I am doing. I needed 2 needles and needed stuff sprayed in my mouth. I was very cooperative. Lady learned the Revolution we have been on isn't effective for deer ticks so Woody gave us something different to try this year. Lady asked him when I should become a senior as some foods say at 6, and I am now 7. Woody said when I am 9 or 10. He also asked if my prozac worked and my peeps said yes, they had some left to get us started this year. The rest of the 30 minutes was spent on human chat that had nothing to do with me or Phod. I think the time spent in this horrible place should be limited to our care - do you all agree?

Phod, the Man and I waited in the car while Lady paid. Our clinic is a 24 hour emergency one, so can be very busy (there were several critical cases, the Humane society dropped 2 cats off to be checked just in the few minutes Lady was waiting). Then we drove home. Phod threw up again because Woody had given him a cookie. I told him not to feel bad as Lady deserved it for taking us to that horrible place.

Now you know how the Lady and the Man tricked us and ruined a perfectly good trip to the park with a trip to the vet. What a terrible trick.

A tired and angry Lee

Editor's note: While there are vets closer to us, we do drive the hour or so (it is about 50km/30 miles) to see our vet. He has been a family friend for 23 years and I trust him. When he retires we will look for someone closer, until then we will see him. Because it is so far, we try and go early so the dogs can have a run at the park. Makes the trip a little more worthwhile.

  1. oh I so agree the time there should be eggs-tremely limited... 2.3 minutes or so...
but I loved your park and the pups you met there... why humans ruin the best days with their "practically" thinking? it is enough to drive to a park... the vet can wait, right?

OMD that was pure mischief behaviour of the hyoomans!!! give with one paw, blindside you with the other!!! Gotta say though, that park looked TOP STUFF. Now I wonder if Lady can talk to Woody about his recomendationss for closer vets - usually there is quite a good network between these professionals... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Try to look at it the other way -- you had a BAD day at the vet brightened by going to the park!

  5. We totally agree about going to Dr. Woody whom you all know and love. No matter the distance. Mom feels that way too but luckily my vet is only 5 minutes from home but he has been our vet for all of the years (33+) we have lived here.

Yay for You Lee!! Great appointment. NOW AS FOR THE TRICK....OK MY FRIEND WE MUST WORK UP SOME TRUE REVENGE...
    Hugs madi your bfff

  6. That was a dirty trick but at least you did get to go to the park. It could have just been a trip to the vet and no park. Really Phod, one cookie and you couldn't keep it down,OMD.

    Aroo to you,
    Sully

  7. That was a sort of mean trick. We usually get a bit run AFTER we go to the Vet, but if you get to go to that wonderful park and play with friends, then the Vet part is worth it.

  8. Well Hailey, let me tell you things could have been a whole lot worse. My recent V-E-T visits have involved vet Katrine TORTURING me (although Gail says she was only trying to look at my paw) and there have been no compensatory runs in the park. OK, so I admit I don't feel like running what my paw is sore, but that's not the point is it?
    Toodle pip!

  10. Getting to run and play at the park kind of makes up for the vet visit. It is great to have a vet you know and trust

  11. Well, that wasn't a good trick they played on you, Hailey, but at least you got to run in the park, right?

  14. I agree. This was a naughty trick. But better than just a trip to the vet with NO run at the park.

  17. We drive a long way to the vet too. She's been our vet for almost 20 years, and we feel like she's part of the family. So, I get it.

Poor Phod with the upset tummy.

I wouldn't call it mischief - I'd call it making a visit to the vet more fun by going to the park!!!

  18. Geez, you were hoodwinked big time! At least you got to go to the park. Our parents take us straight to the vet which is even worse! LOL!

  19. Well it was a bit of a trick getting you two out in the sun and fun and snow and having a good time then WHAMMO at the vet but it wasn't all THAT awful right? AND you got to have a good time BEFORE the vet right? See? Things worked out after all!

    Love, Angel Sam and Ted

  23. Our Patron Saint Old Charisma used to get carsick. Her original family didn't want her any more because of this. This strangely disappeared after she had surgery on one of her ears.

Glad you had a good time at the doggie park.

  24. At least you were able to have lots of fun with friends at the park before going to the jabby place. We can't believe all the snow you still have!!

  25. Just remember, it could be worse, Lee. It could be a trip to the vet with NO park! That's how it usually goes around here (ours is less than 10 minutes away though).

  26. That was a very sneaky thing for your pawrents to do. The park would have been great but adding the vet was just not right.

  27. A trip to the dog park AND snow? I think that counts as a suitable exchange for the evil vet visit. Glad you're doing well, Ms. Hailey. You both sure looked like you were having fun chasing around.
