Remembering Firsts

Today Puppyspot asked us to share memories of firsts with our pups.

The clearest first I have for Hailey are all about a naughty little pup. She was about 9 months old when she came to live with us.

There was the  first time she destroyed a crate

oh and the second time too. This is when crate training ended.

There is the first time she destroyed the screen door as well,

and who can forget her first hole,

or the first time she caught a squirrel and the first time she caught a groundhog and that time she brought me a half dead mouse.

Zaphod, who was about 1.5 years old when he joined us, firsts include the first time he played fetch,

the first time he went swimming,

and the first time he voluntarily came up for a snuggle.

I think the firsts that come to mind totally fit their personalities - my crazy, destructive, full of life girl versus my calm and quiet boy.

What are your favourite first memories?

Mom says her first memory of wee Me was when she first took me up stairs on my first day to show me my box. She remembered she forgot something downstairs left me up and lo and behold she turned around and wee Me had master going the 14 steps without even blinking and I was quick as lightning going up

  3. Oh my goodness!!! We have never seen crates destroyed like that!!! WOW!! We used to have a German Shepherd and when she was a puppy and I was still working, I put her in the bathroom while I went to work. I wasn't gone very long, but there was a HUGE hole in the drywall. My husband was out of town. I called a contractor and he came and patched up and painted before my husband got home! Never forget my destructo pup!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.... I remember going to the house where kittens were for sale and sitting on the carpet. One little silver tiger looked me in the eye and then clambered up to my left shoulder. He never left it! Jasper cat wanted only the left shoulder. AS for Jade Dog... well you can read about the first impression of her HERE... YAM xx

  5. Nothing like going back in time to puppyhood! My mom met me when I was about 1 and a half so she doesn't know what I was like as a pup!

  9. Mom says Misty can't see this post as she has a crate just like Hailey's. So far she loves her crate and we need to keep it that way. Lightning won't go anywhere near a crate:)

A big first here was the time Lightning brought a full grown deaded rabbit in the kitchen for Mom - guess he was hoping she was going to roast it for him:)

    Woos - Lightning and Misty

  11. Sweet firsts. Especially the cuddle. The first 5 minutes I was in my new furever home, I tested out the couch. I liked it.

    Love and licks,

  15. Hailey sure was a "destructo-pup" with those crates but obviously she did NOT want to be in them! HAHAHA Love the photos...both of the pups have been through a whole lot haven't they. As for "firsts" with Sam, my favorite one would be the first time he came up to me and put his paws on my knee asking me to pick him up. He did that frequently - just wanting me to hold him and carry him around. That was 16 years ago!

    Hugs, Pam

  16. I'm happy to say I've never destroyed a crate or a screen door. But I have destroyed many a squeaky toy! Oh, and I've caught several bunnies, mice, shrews, and birdies. Well, I thought it was my job to catch them. I'm such a good doggie hunter! Just like Hailey!

  17. Those were some fun "firsts" BOL My Mum's first memory of me is seeing me born beside her on the back seat of the car on the way to the vet because I was taking my time to come out into the world. She let me snuggle in her T-shirt while my brother was born in the vet surgery with Judith in attendance and then me and my brother had our first car journey at just an hour old :-) nose licks and love from Moth xx

  18. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Those are many good firsts! The first time I went on a Walk in the forest I mostly hid behind my (brand new) person. Now I run ahead and far into the bushes! The first time I came into my new house I was very nervous and paced and paced and paced. (My person adds that this lasted for about three weeks and it was AWFUL. Well guess what, it was awful for me too!) The first time I saw snow I bounced and bounced and bounced in it!
