What We Were Practicing For

Yesterday we share a picture of us sitting in the car practicing. What were we practicing for?

Some of you guessed it, we were practicing sharing the backseat for our trip to the Blogville Awesome Retreat (BAR) in June. You seen, since we are picking up an RV in Syracuse NY (as none near us would allow dogs), we really need the trunk to put the dishes, bedding etc. (We need to pack a lot of stuff!)

When we first got Phod, he went in the backseat with Lee. However, he got sick and it was all under the seat and impossible to clean (the stain is still there), so we gave him the trunk, because it was easier to clean. When I took Phod to the vet a few weeks ago, he had the backseat to himself and did fine, so we decided we could put him back in the seat (which historically Lee has not shared well).

To test this all out, on Saturday afternoon, we put the pups in the backseat and headed to Gatineau Park for a walk. (The nearest park entrance is about 30 minutes from us).

The car: I am happy to say, 100% total success, once they both settled down. It was very exciting to be in the car at first. Phod, who had not had anti-nausea meds and had eaten breakfast, didn't get sick. (For the 2 long days in the car for BAR, a total of about 15 hours of driving, he will get a dose of meds).
Are we home yet? I am tired.
Lee wasn't thrilled but she shared well.

He is touching me

The walk: This was sort of a fail for the following reasons.

Both Phod and Lee had to pee on every tree - in a forest park there are a lot

Loose leash walking didn't exist

We picked a trail that was mainly ice, very hard to walk on especially for the Man who sprained his ankle

They will be getting more practice at places like this as we practice going in the car. They pups had a great time, even if they weren't great walkers.

All this pulling, peeing and sniffing has made me tired

We hope May isn't too rainy (we just had the driest April on record), so we can get out in the car and to parks more often.

We would like to extend our thoughts to those effected by the
devastating wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
The once vibrant oil town has been destroyed.
Approximately 80 000 people displaced.
Let's hope the fire crews all remain safe.
We are thinking of you Fort McMurray.

Well done Lee and Phod... what the peeps need to understand is that when you go to new territory, you just HAVE to leave peemail - its dogiquette!!! I guess most places where you don't know will also require the leashes, but I know that with more practice you will get to really look forward to these trips... and be all ready for the BAR event!!! 3. It is such great news that Lee and Phod got along just fine in the back seat...and no incidences of up-chucking either! Well done. I bet the walk in the forest was extra exciting because of the car ride.

We heard about the fires but not the specific city. My goodness 80,000 misplaced that is just horrible. I hope and pray they have some where for temporary living

  9. Lee, it's better for Phod to be touching you than breathing on you after he has puked. I saw on the news last night about the wildfires in Canada glad y'all are okay.

    Aroo to you,

  12. Oh my goodness, you have hit the nail on the head. We have to stop and smell the pee mail at least 50 times a walk, NO EXAGGERATION. It is TOO MUCH. I like enrichment walks, but please. We are praying for Alberta Province, too, it is horrible what they are going through.

  13. We bet you two are going to do just fine in the car just knowing where you are headed.

We are sick over that fire - it is so hard to watch it - so much loss. All paws crossed for all those affected by it.

  14. You still has ice there? OMD! We has spring flowahs now. I can totally sympathize with the back seat sharing. We make my cuzzin Sebastian ride in the trunk but he hangs ofur the seat into my turf all the time but I let him.
