Pet Unfriendly Frustration

I am going to have a little rant here on the blog today, maybe this rant will help lead to a solution!

It is our intention to attend the Blogville Awesome Retreat (BAR) in June. One of my dream items (which is not shared by the Man, he is totally humouring me here) is to travel across North America in an RV. This dream comes from my childhood when we traveled in a van. I thought, given it is about 16 hour drive and with all of Hailey's issues and Phod's car issues, that an RV would be the perfect way to go to BAR. Man agreed. .

Now the frustrating part. None of the RV rentals in our area are pet friendly. In fact one clearly says you will be out $2000 if you put a dog in their RV. This just frustrates me. Perhaps because I already live in a world where I am discriminated against because I don't have children. Now I am being discriminated against because I love my dogs and want to travel with them.  There, I am done my rant!

The Man (and I helped too) found a not bad deal in Syracuse New York. That is like 4 or 5 hour drive from our place. We think that is what we will go with.  They were actually recommended by a place in Toronto we found that was pet friendly. We are just happy to have found something, although it does mean we have to be all squishy crossing the boarder! Let's hope this works out!

  3. Well, I have looked into renting an RV but I just haven't been able to accept the cost as yet! Gosh, they charge a good amount plus you have gas and supplies... but I do know that Cruise America offers pet-friendly RV rentals. You should check them out!

  10. OH no!!! With all the pet friendly hotels etc I'm astonished about the RV rentals.
I've been a mother for 44 years and a pet mother for 38 years. I know for a fact both children and pets can create messes. If both child and pet have good parents both are tons of fun. I've seen children in restaurants who make bigger messes eating than any pet. I often wonder if the parents let the children eat like that at home. 99% of the time the parents leave the restaurant with that mess all over the place never once trying to clean up. If I had to guess I'd say NO because they have to clean it up.
Thank goodness you found a place to rent your RV.
We are looking forward to meeting you all.

  11. You sound just like mom. She wants to travel the same way and has dreamt of it since childhood too. We did find an RV place that accepts dogs but no plans to rent it yet. Have a blast!! Only furry kids in this household

  13. That is frustrating. I was trying to rent a small campervan as a trial to see if we could travel, but the no dog rule or huge pet tariff has put that on hold for awhile! Hope you can find another closer.

  14. I feel your pain. Especially since most dogs that travel with their people are far better guests than many humans are. When's the last time a dog stole towels or had a drunken party?

  20. Hey! Syracuse is just one hour from our home. You will probably have to pass right by us on your way to the BAR. Maybe you could pick us up and we could all go together ;-)

BTW it is also our mom's dream to travel the USA in an RV but our dad says no way.

  21. We are glad you found a solution BUTT that does NOT negate the fact that these other places are anti-dog! Rv/trailer is the best way to travel with dogs. Me and Stanley know this very well. You will be happy. Maybe you should just buy MAN a RV for his birfday hee . . . hee . . . kinda tricky huh?

    Keep Calm & Bark On!

  23. I agree, it's very frustrating. I'm thinking of buying an RV or travel trailer so it isn't so hard to travel with my dogs.

  26. Omgosh that is CRAZY! I think the world needs to be a lot more pet friendly. I know very few people who do not like pets. I would say the majority of this country is pet friendly!

  27. That is unbelievable! We used to have an RV, and the main reason we did was because we wanted to vacation with our dogs. I can't believe the places that rent them don't realize how many people take their dogs camping.
I'm glad you found something anyway....that is so exciting! It is something I have always wanted to do too.

  28. Shame on those RV places that don't allow dogs!
