Hailey the Amazing

Wednesday nights are the Man's night out with his friends, leaving me in charge of everything (note: I normally eat toast or something as I don't cook!) Last Wednesday I was working at home all day and I had a Skype consult set for 7 pm, so I made sure to feed the dogs early so I could get them out for a nice play before my meeting (mainly so they would leave me alone while working).

After their dinner and play I start to preparing for my meeting.  Hailey was in my office pacing and stomping. Stomping is a behaviour she usually reserves for when we are eating something she wants. I didn't have anything to eat. I just had water. I start to go over all the reasons why she may be restless and then it hit me and what happened went like this:

Me: Hailey, I forgot to give you your pill. Is that your problem? Let's go get your pill.

Hailey: She ran up the stairs and sat in the kitchen near where her pills are kept.

I believe she was trying to tell me she needed her pill. Let's be honest, it is not the pill she wanted, it is the cookie she gets after. We always save a special kind for pill time. I was just amazed that she was able to let me know I had forgotten.

She is brilliant and beautiful!

It also says that she is getting benefit... special treat or not, she would certainly reject medicine if she didn't know it to be benefitting her. We forget that animals have a very good sense of their own condition. I treated the J's homoeopathically - Jasper cat rarely needed anything; but Jade was amazing, in that she would come and let me know if she was feeling out of sorts - much as Hailey did you; I would ask "is there a need for medicine?", at which point, if I had read those signals correctly, she'd spin on the spot! ... Yes - our critters are wonderful !!! YAM xx

  3. We feed the cats at 3 PM. They start nagging at 2. They can't tell time, but they know what they're supposed to get and when. Daylight Saving Time throws them off...

  10. Good girl, Hailey! How is everything going with her stress? Are the pill helping?

  11. That is awesome! I'm sure that she wanted the treat associated with it, but it does make you wonder if she knows her medicine is helping her too.

  13. She really is beautiful! I've been wrapping Chico's pills in lunch meat which he loves, but I'm pretty sure he would never let me know that I forgot one of his pills.

  14. Sometimes it is scary how much they can communicate. She has a built in clock and knew she'd missed her pill. She is a genius. ♥
