We arrived in Rome, where we spent 2 days seeing all the cool Rome sights. While we enjoyed the food (and it was so easy to find amazing gluten free choices) and the art and the sights, overall, we did not love Rome. We found it loud, traffic scary, and found people at the sites were very pushy trying to sell you things or begging (I believe I was cursed several times).
Then we got on a cruise ship. The cruise left just north of Rome and visited the following places: Tuscany - Pisa and Florence (would go back in a second), Marseille and Aix en Provence France, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Valencia, Sardinia, Sicily, Naples (and Pompeii).
There were so, so many favourite moments it would take days and days to write them all. Perhaps, once we get settled and back to the real world we can share some specific stories. Highlights included, rocking it in the Monte Carlo casino (it was Lady's lucky day); Eating fresh white truffles in Florence; finding the holy grail; learning about bull fighting; the amazing art (regardless of one's religious beliefs the art is breathtaking); wandering streets in small town Italy eating gelato - we loved the small town Italy; visiting the tombs of some famous people (I love a cemetery - blame my parents for taking me to 'ghost towns' as a kid); visiting ruins of a castle that date back to 15-13 BCE; pizza in Naples; paintings that survived Pompeii; playing silly games on the cruise ship; meeting new people; eating (food is a big theme in the highlights lol!)
Overall, it was the best vacation we have ever had.
While I am not one to subscribe to any real religious views, I really love the image of the angels, and have attached some pictures of a few favourites.
This is the most bored angel I have ever seen, she made me laugh! |

ReplyDeleteArt can be loved for art's sake!!! Word to the wise though; angels are male. ... You sure packed a lot into that trip! Hugs, YAM xx
A trip of a life time - we agree with you - Rome was not our favorite place either - someone tried to pick pocket my bag 5 minutes after getting off the train.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had such a lovely time and Italy sure is a magical place. Have a super Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly

It's wonderful that you had such a fantastic holiday. SHE loves travelling. You're lucky to find Italian food. When SHE went to Norway, all SHE found was the Texas Steakhouse, Tacos, Pizza, Hamburgers...very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteTravelling is great, but getting home to your own little nest is wonderful too. (Love that bored angel best.)
Ooooh how fun! Sounds like you had a fabulous time. That is one place I would definitely like to visit some time. Thinking about all the food is making me hungry now.
ReplyDeleteDear friends,
ReplyDeleteWe are glad that your people had a good time, and even gladder that they are now home with you! Those are beautiful angels, and I hope they know that they have more angelic creatures living in the house with them - you two, of course!
Licks and wags,

That sounds like a great vacation.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing! I rode my bike all through Italy years ago, and I got "stuck" in Florence because I loved it so much. There's art everywhere! And the coffee.... (that was before we had cappucinos in the US). Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had such a wonderful trip....that sounds so interesting and exciting!
