Mischief Monday - Deja Vu

Saturday was a lovely day. It was the nicest day so far this year. We opened some windows to let the fresh spring air into the house. Man and Lady also had plans in town with friends Saturday afternoon, so after a walk down Lee's favourite street, lots of exercise and play, we went to town.

We came home later that afternoon to a disaster in the front hall.

Besides chewing the paw wiping towel, Hailey,

chewed up the leashes that I had not put in the drawer (thankfully I had an extra pair at home, will pick up another extra set next trip to the pet store):

and tried to get out the garage door again:

The damage is not as bad as the last time this happened, but is still upsetting. We know it was Hailey and not Phod, not just because of her history, but because she was the one with drywall on her paws. We have no idea why this happened. The window was open, did something sound louder? The last time this happened, August 2012, we had just moved into the house, and there was a terrible, terrible storm while we were out.

It feels like a defeat and it is going to take us some time to figure out what to do to further help our girl.

Sigh!

  1. Do you think another dog dog or other animal passed by the open window? I don't know her history …but hang in there. I'm sure you will figure it out and be able to get back on track!

  2. Separation anxiety maybe...she missed you and was trying to find a way out to look for you.

  3. It does sound like separation anxiety. I read once that noises or other unusual things can trigger this kind of thing. Toby has a similar problem although never as bad as tearing up the drywall. He's fine if it's nice enough to leave him out in the yard, but if he's inside we have good luck with crating him. I think outside he can run around and feel like he's escaping whatever is upsetting him. We don't leave him outside alone for more than about 2 hours though.

  4. Wow but at least it is not as bad as last time. Maybe Lee heard something outside that sounded exciting and wanted to go out and chase? Hope you are back on track asap. Have a marvellous Monday.

  5. Shoot, I bet she heard a noise out there and was trying her best to be a good guard dog. Momma says she feels the same sometimes...three steps forward and four steps backward. Hugs to you!

  6. Holy macaroni, you better run for the hills! Mom saw a piece of hard plastic that you attach to the wall where scratching and chewing occurs.

  7. WE think that it was SQUIRRELS... They do stuffs like this... and then BLAME it on US... As fur the plaster on the paws... that is probably from where the Fight to RID the House of Squirrels.. took place. Just think what thingys would have been like IF you had not Vanquished the VILE Squirrels and Run them OUT.

  8. There might have been drywall on her paws because she was trying to CLEAN up the mess. We think F & E got it right, squirrels! Did you think about that? Unless there is video she is INNOCENT!

  10. We hope things calm down Hailey...Jakey has separation anxiety, but his destruction is on a much smaller scale.

  11. Oh, please don't take it as defeat. I know it is hard but something had to have scared her, bothered her, etc. It's too bad you do not have a little camera that you could leave running when you are out...it may help you figure out what is bothering her when you are gone.

  14. Our Chipy chewed leashes and furniture off too and we never knew why she did that or if there was something what could be the trigger. ( she even killed the hand brake of the car and the safety belts) I hope you will find a solution or someone has an idea what you could try.

  16. UH-OH RUT ROW that is not good Hailey. Instead of having free rein when they are gone, you might be facing INCARSIRATION ! Seriously I hope you can find out why she does this damage.
    Thanks for being a friend

  18. Well, the leads we think is just her idea of NOT wearing last season's fashions, but the wall is something else....Hmmmmmm.

  19. My peep had a dog that would chew holes in the drywall. She was sad when her pack wasn't all there. She gave her a Kong with peanut butter inside and it helped a lot. Good luck!

  23. MOUSES! That's a lot of damage, huh? Somethin' must have spooked her, for sure. And that was some pretty nifty investigative work on your part. Dry wall on the paws. EXCELLENT investigatin', for sure.

  24. Oh Dear Hailey, sorry you had a stressfull time for some reason. I still go in a crate when Mom and Dad aren't home cause Mom is afraid of what naughty things I might do.

  25. Hailey I don't like when my peeps leave me either. I kind of maybe think you might need a better way to pass the time though. Have you tried watching animal planet or maybe you and Phod could play hide and seek?
