Sleeping Emma |
We have had 4 dogs in our lives, 2 small ones and 2 big ones. Loki, Gemini and Hailey generally pooped/poop 2 times a day. Zaphod usually goes 3 times. After surveying my dog owning friends their ranges were 1-3 times.
This had led me to conclude 6 is probably too many. This has also made me think that perhaps she has some sort of food sensitivity. I do know that a Greenie (a favourite treat in our house) really upsets her tummy, so we are avoiding those. I know many of you have pets with food sensitivities, so here is our question to you:
How did you figure it out? What do you feed them?
Thanks!
We can pretty much eat anything so we are of no help I am afraid. May be Ann over at pawsitively pets can help. She was very helpful to me re using charcoal in the diet. Good luck. Have a super Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
My group go 2-3 times a day. I'm interested in checking back and see what other responses you get.
ReplyDeleteDon't think we can help, we eat any and everything and usually go poop three to four times a day, Susie is good at Poopie Pellet Shooting, now Bites doesn't leave very big ones, so thats why they go so much. Shadow the lab, only once or twice a day, but oh does it count!

I don't think that 6 is a horrible number... it could be worse, but it's on the verge of that lol. This little 12 lb beagle used to stay for boarding where I worked and I have never met a dog that pooped as much as her. They say to feed a good diet with as little "fillers" as possible. The fillers make them poop more. Supposedly, the higher quality food you feed the less a dog poops. Or maybe she's not finishing every visit outside?... I know she likes you to take her out a lot.
ReplyDeleteOh dear me Emma...something does not agree with you. Way back when our first family pet a mighty mini doxie had an upset tummy mom said she browned lean hamburger and mixed in rice. That did the trick every time. Good idea to eliminate things in your diet until you see an improvement.

We're lucky, we haven't had that problem. We eat a very good, expensive kibble and don't get fed a high volume. Maybe that's the trick.

Poor Emma, Hope you figure out what's causing her upset tummy
ReplyDeleteI poop once or twice a day. DeDe can poop at the drop of a hat. It's always been that way. Now DeDe does have food allergies. Jen started with the usual suspects- corn and wheat and then moved on to chicken. Since those three things were eliminated from her diet, she has done much better. I will also say that DeDe was taken to several vets at that time and they poo-poo'ed off the suggestion it could be food allergies, but after Jen had spent lots of money and done everything they asked of her and got so improvement, she tried a diet change on her own and saw improvement within a week.
ReplyDeleteI can't say that's what you need to do. I can just say that food allergies are far more prevalent than many people, including vets, seem to realize. But there are other things, like cleaning chemicals, that can be harmful to dogs as well. Just keep trying!
What food is she eating? Is it runny poop, or normal? 6 times is a lot. Nola only goes 2-3 times a day. She has food allergies to corn and soy, and when she gets those (and any dog kibble) she goes 4-5 times a day.

Wow. I never knew all this dog poop insider-stuff. I dig around in my littlerbox several times a day, but sometimes I do it just cause it's fun and I don't really poop. Guess the digging part is lots more fun for kitties! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI get fed twice a day, kibble and a few treats in the day..I do poop quite a lot though..Perhaps I just have a quick digestive system :) xx00xx

Hi! I adopted Emma's sibling and he eats Acana Pacifica, as it came highly recommended by the westie lovers of cyberspace... their mantra is "no wheat, no corn, no soy, no beef, no lamb, no dairy". Also, maybe she's having nervous poops? More activity than usual? Recent vaccinations? Hope things settle soon :)
ReplyDeleteDepending on the consistency of the poopies, it could be an allergy to grain or corn. Loki was on a boiled rice mixed with boiled lean ground beef for quite a while. We decided to eliminate corn and grain (fun fact it's not part of a dog's natural diet, so its hard on their tummys. the only exposure ancestral dogs would have to grain was from the undigested bits in the stomachs of the animals they ate)
ReplyDeleteWe switched Loki to Orijen Regional Red, and haven't looked back. He was on Hills Science Diet Advanced Fitness before that.
When Loki was going six times a day, Dr. Vet's main concern with nutrient absorbtion. She suggested adding Purina Fortiflora powder to his meals to help (and it's a probiotic) A natropathic remedy for digestion issues is also plain balkan style yogurt, a tablespoon fifteen mins before eating makes the probiotics do their thing tho we didnt try the yogurt with him)
