Mischief Monday - Old Dog Style

We have had lots of mischief.

First up is Miss Bug. On Friday, even though she was out a lot, she managed to poop 2 times in the house. Lady believes what is happening is sometimes she doesn't know she needs to go until it is too late. On our walks, she seems to be caught of guard sometimes. Also, Lady wonders if, since Lee is being very barky lately, she is barking all the time at all the things,  that Lady may be missing her asking. Man thinks she is just being a brat. This is becoming a more common occurrence.

Phod managed to hurt one of his back hips doing a race down the basement steps to join Hailey with barking at the cat at the patio door. Lady has been trying to rest him. However, he is still making choices like digging in his hole to France.

These are the signs of aging we live with and monitor every day.

Nature Friday - Flowers

 Dear pals,

Because I responded to Lady's call outside, I get to share some spring flowers with you when I would rather be rolling.

Thanks to Rosy and Sunny for hosting this event.

I'll Do What I Want - by Lee

 Dear pals,

Lady and Man told me I shouldn't be climbing on the retaining wall that Callie's Man made us a number of years ago. They said, especially since I am more tippy it is not safe.

Well, I didn't listen to them and climbed on the retaining wall. Chipmunks live it it, so it always smells good.

Looks totally safe to me

Besides I was a little ticked off with Lady at the time, because she had just got home smelling like cats! She went to celebrate cousin Troy and Aunt C's birthdays.

If Lady can do what she wants to, I can do what I want to.

Travel Tuesday - Niagara Falls - Part One

Maybe because they are tired of alway having their pictures taken, but my dogs have agreed to let me share some travel here for a few posts.

I was recently away to go to Niagara Falls, Ontario, with some friends for a long weekend.

I thought I would start by sharing pictures of the falls. The first day we walked to see them as a group. Then day 3 I walked along the top in the morning while my friends slept. Then on day 4, because my friends wanted to do nothing, and I knew I couldn't just sit in our suite until our ride arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon to take us back to Toronto to catch our transportation home, I went and did all the fall tourist stuff!

There are 3 falls, 2 American, the American and Bridal Veil Falls, and one Canadian, the Horseshoe Falls . I alway forget about the 3rd one. They are very young and only about 12 000 years old. While not the tallest, Niagara Falls has the world's highest water fall rate. It is eroding about a foot a year, and while impossible to imagine will just be a rapids some day.  90% of the fish who go over the falls survive. 20% of American drinking water flows over the falls.

Sorry American friends, the Canadian side has a much better view! Here are some pictures from all the ways I saw the falls.

Same as above but I was getting wet

Just a little fun!

Hope you enjoyed all the views of the falls!

Mischief Monday - Mean Person 1, Us 0

Dear pals,

You may remember that a not very kind neighbour has been on a 3 year campaign to get our dock removed.  Well, we just found out, she has won round one, and our dock needs to be removed.

It is amazing how this little thing can cause so much trouble

This is likely going to get messy as our very nice neighbour's Callie's people, are exploring all our options, many which involve things like lawyers.

Lady has resolved to not let this nasty person win (and she has said a lot of HBO words). For now, we will continue to enjoy our beautiful, clear lake, even if we don't have a dock.

Mischief Monday - Abandonned - by Lee

 Hey pals,

Just letting you know that Lady abandoned us on the weekend and went away for 87 million years. Besides leaving us and messing up our routine, it means she didn't get any blogs ready or red us your blogs. She thought a girls weekend to Niagara Falls to celebrate two of her friends birthdays was a better use of time. She will be back by next week apparently. I will decide if I am going to talk to her.

So you remember my face until she gets back.

Not thrilled at her, Hailey Bug

Nature Friday - April Showers Brought May Floors

In spite  of all the frosts and the fact some creature dug up some of the Lady's bulbs, Lady is happy she is getting some of her spring colour. Gardening is an area she is very much a work in progress.

Why do I have to pose with them? Where is Hailey?

Thanks to Rosy and Sunny for hosting this event.

Getting Old - by Lady

After my angels Loki departed at age 8, and Gemini at age 6, my goal in life had been to have a dog who lived until at least 10. I remember joking that I may have to adopted a senior dog to make this happen, as I didn't have much luck previously.

Now I am living with 2 senior dogs. I know I am watching our last moments together as I see them both slowing down. As I write this, I should clarify I don't see any immediate threat to their health, however, at the same time, nothing would surprise me.

I am looking at this stage of my dogs life as a gift. I am blessed that overall they are both happy and comfortable in their golden days. Phod needs his arthritis shot, has decreased stamina -there is no fetch and our walks get shorter. He avoids extra stairs and sleeps almost all day, and sleeps much deeper (he fails as a guard dog now, usually in our closet. He still has his moments of play and being silly, but they are shorter too. His vision seems pretty good, but his hearing is not what it was.

I have taken your seat

Hailey has never fully recovered from her neurological event. She is still tippy. She doesn't run and jump like she used to. She is dragging her back paw more noticeably. Her stamina is much less and is clear she doesn't see as well. She has become a picky eater, who would have imagined that. The upshot is, she hasn't destroyed anything and I am not as worried she will. Also, while she may make a little dash to the neighbours or into the bush, we can trust her off leash way more because we know she isn't going far.

Annoyed I am taking her picture

What I miss most besides the cuddles on the couch neither want to get on, and my full time work supervisor in Phod, is the long walks. Some times I admit, I resented those long walks when they needed to happen. However now I know physically and mentally I was healthier when I was doing them. I admit, I love these 2 with all my hearts and they will spend the remainder of their days in my care, I do think about getting a third, younger dog, for a walking companion. Man, plus knowing Lee and Phod wouldn't appreciate this, prevent me from doing it. I need to stop being lazy and just take myself for a long walk, I hear it is possible.

In spite of the changes, I am so grateful to have this chapter with them. I would not change it for the world. I have even less understanding and compassion for people who dump a dog just because they are old. It may be true that old dogs are the best. I am just going to cherish the moments we have.

Trouble on a Tuesday - Interfering - by Lee

Dear pals,

Lady has a terrible habit of interrupting me while I am enjoying the sweet, sweet grass.

She says it upsets my stomach. She reminds me sometimes I need some assistance pulling some grass out of my backside.  I reminder her I am a senior lady in my golden years and I will do what I want.

The grass at the side of the house, right by the opening to the sceptic system is the best.

Mischief Monday - The Ears - by Phod

 Dear pals,

My ears have been a little itchy and the Man tortured me by cleaning them. It was terrible.

I can't imagine how they got so dirty!

Evening Walks

 Evening walks are great.

You know what makes them even better?

Sharing them with friends.
