We Will Be Back by Hailey and Zaphod

Lady and Man are abandoning us for 87 million days. They are going on a grand European Adventure and leaving us here to rot. [Editors Note: The pets are all being left in the care of people who adore them and if anything will provide better care for them, so don't buy this sad story].

While Man and Lady are away we won't be blogging and we won't be able to visit all of you. Lady says she is going completely off the grid!

But don't worry, we will be back before Christmas (Lady guess we will be back around December 8 if she has her head screwed on by then). We will have all our adventures to share and get to catch up with all of you and be ready for all the December holidays!

We know a lot of our Blogville friends are facing hard times right now. Know we are thinking of you.

Talk to you soon in people time, forever in dog time.

Hailey and Zaphod, the dogs who are about to be abandoned.

Delay in Blog Post as Had to Go to the Post

Would Lady notice if I borrowed something?
We are posting our blog later than we intended today as we have been busy.

First we had to help our Lady wrap some gifts for some special friends. See we got Dory and the Boyz from http://dorysbackyard.blogspot.ca in the Christmas gift exchange. Because we are going to be MIA for a few weeks (on Monday we will tell you all about it), we wanted to make sure it went out.

Great wrapping job Lady, my gal Dory is
gonna love this stuff!
Once it was all wrapped, we sent Lady to town to mail it. She said it was so silly mailing it. First, there was a big line. Then, US customs have changed how things have to be done. The Mail Lady had to enter all the info about everything that was in the package (very specific and estimated dollar values)  into the computer so customs has that now before they have the package. I guess this way they can flag suspicious packages. Then the Lady had to write out what she just told the Mail Lady (why they can't just print that out and have her sign it is beyond her).  She hopes Dory and the Boyz don't peak at the customs slip cause it says what is in it without even having to open it!

Lady also learned that if it is over 1 kg, you have to express post it. No slow mail (now that is just to make the $$$$ and is silly). At any rate, she got it all taken care of and sent off before her appointment at the human hair stealers. Regardless of how silly the mail system is, we are so excited to be sending a gift to our friends. We hope they enjoy it!

Lady's Defence: Why the Pups Didn't Join Me at PetExpo

Here is why I was the worst Lady ever and didn't take my dogs with me to PetExpo.

1) I did it as part of a day of fun with my sister. We went for lunch and did some other errands after. If the pups were with me, I wouldn't be able to have that fun.

2) It was a long drive away. It was in the South end of the city about an hour and a bit from our place. Most of you know that the car is very stressful for Phod and we do limited his rides (he needs very expensive meds that aren't that great for him to go in the car).

3) I wanted to enjoy the actual expo. While I believe Phod would have been well behaved, I can't say the same for Hailey. She does much better off leash in large groups like this. I tried to picture me with the two of them, I wouldn't have gotten to pick up one sample as I was dragged through the event. Perhaps if the Man wanted to come he could control Hailey better (I am not at all bitter that I do the bulk of the work with Hailey and she is better behaved for him, no not one bit). I don't think it would be as enjoyable with them.

That is my defence!

The terrible Lady who does nothing good with her pups!

The First Bowser Box

At PetExpo one of the first booths I visited was the Bower Box one. I have looked and looked at getting a subscription box for awhile. All the blog reviews of  these have me envious. The Man has been saying our dogs don't need it (let's be honest, despite what they may say, the need nothing, so in a way he is right, but don't tell him that!). I took advantage of his not being there and Aunt C's encouragement to sign up for 3 months (to give it a try). By signing up for 3 months, we got a free box.

Here is Phod checking it out. (He was so excited it was cute, I wish I had captured it on vide).

I know the pups are looking forward to trying all the new things (as well as all the samples from PetExpo as shown yesterday!)

We Remember

At the 11th hour of the 11th Day we pause to remember those who were willing to make the ultimate sacrfice so we could live in a better world.  We remember those who were lost and those who lived with scars that would never heal.

We are proud to have an active member in the Canadian Forces, Uncle Chris (cousin Emma's dad). We are happy he is currently at home, but know the dangers for our soldiers are still high in Canada. Today we salute 3 Canadian soldiers who were killed recently at home: Warrant Office Patrice Vincent and Cpl. Nathan Cirillo who were killed on Canadian soil by madmen and  Private Steven Allen who was killed in a training exercise.

Lest We Forget

The following have been borrowed from social media. We are sorry we could not find the sources of these very moving images.

Mischief Monday - But Halloween is OVER!

Lady was out all day yesterday and came back smelling of other dogs but with lots of treats, so it was easy to forgive her until . . . . . until she opened the bag with these . . . . .

Phod will need some strap added to his as nothing is ever big enough for him

She had to stop at the pet store for some supplies and these were on clearance ($4.97 each) so she decided to buy for next year.

If this wasn't bad enough, she was also out all day because she and Aunt C went to PetExpo, and we didn't get to go!

We will share more about that later this week.

Black and White Sunday - Flashback

We had our first snow of the year yesterday. Winter is coming (this time every year I wonder why I don't move somewhere without snow!)

It made me think of one of my all time favourite pictures of Leelee.

Things That Go "BLAAAA" In The Night

Monday night was an adventure in our house. I had not been feeling well Monday, so I took some medication to help me sleep. The caused me to miss the first part of the Man and Hailey adventure.

Around 11:30pm Hailey threw up. Now since I have had dogs for more than a decade, I know that sometimes dogs throw up. The problem was that our Hailey kept throwing up. She threw up for about 45 minutes. When I got up (toward the end of the 45 minutes) she was clearly in distress. When the Man had taken her outside she had eaten grass (which is common) and in the house she was desperate to eat hair and fluff from the floor and would immediately puke it back up. (Unfortunately in our house there is always a lot of hair and fluff on the floor!) We made the decision to take her to the vet, even though the emergency vet is about an hour away. We knew our regular vet would not be the vet on call, but we also knew she would see an excellent vet (and if need be, we could talk to our vet in the morning).

The Man loaded her into the car and off they went. Interestingly as soon as we took her to the car, she stopped puking.

Of course now I am awake so Phod and I snuggled in bed awaiting news. We didn't have to wait too long because the clinic was not very busy (fortunately, sometimes emerg can be crazy busy). The vet  thought Hailey was one of the most gorgeous dogs she had ever seen and added that to her file! She did an exam, ordered X-rays, and in the end found nothing. Her guess is she ate something that upset her stomach and she had expelled it all. She gave her a shot of anti-nausea meds and about 40 minutes after arriving at the clinic they were on their way home.

Once we heard this (about 2 am) , Phod and I went to sleep. I knew I couldn't take Tuesday off, so I squeezed a few hours in. On Tuesday, other than being a bit tired Hailey seemed fine and she has been fine the rest of the week.

We are happy that in the end we just lost some sleep and spent some money and that our girl was fine.

Senior Pet Month

November is senior pet month. We celebrate our Nin who is 19.

If you are looking for a new friend, consider a senior pet. It is my plan, when it is time to add to the pack, to find seniors. They deserve to live out their golden years with love.

We Got Mail - by Hailey

On Halloween we got a special treat, we go mail.

We weren't expecting anything so we were really excited.

We opened it up and it was a book from our pal Daisy. A while ago she hosted a digging day and from that she sent us a book.

It is  Robert Munch's The Sand Castle Contest.    I gave it a read and it is a great book. Lady said she can't wait to share with our human cousin Maggie.

Here I am checking it out

This is Lady's favourite picture - that is because it reminds her of her upcoming trip!

Thank you Daisy, you rock!

NaNoWoofMO, Peace and POTP

Today we have a lot going on.

First, we are Blogging for Peace. Thanks to the Nellie in the City for telling us about this. Today we blog for world peace and the peace and health of all our pals (furry and human). There are a lot of people who need good thoughts sent their way. Power of the Paw (POTP)

We want to send special wishes to one special little girl. We are asking everyone to take a moment tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8:20 am to send good wishes to Macey. She is one of Stella Rose, Margaret Mae and Angus from The Three Little Pugs little people. Macey has been having some serious health problems and Wednesday at 8:20 am they are doing some scans. The doctors have given some worrying news, so if you can all send your best wishes to Macey, the family would appreciate it.

Macey - borrowed from Stella Rose's blog - we hope this is ok

I am thrilled to go be participating NaNoWoofMo round robin.

Day 2: http://haikubyku.com/haiku-blog/

Now, chapter 3.

I carefully inspected the fence and quickly realized it was very high and my old bones were not going to make it over. The scent of bacon continued to make my empty stomach growl. (My master's son could have at least fed me before dumping me on the side of the road like a piece of trash). My growling stomach gave me more determination to find a way to that farm house.

I slowly walked down the length of the fence and was excited when I noticed a small hole under one spot of the fence. With a little digging I knew I could make it big enough to slide under. I dug slowly. My old paws could only go so fast. Finally, I had it big enough to slide under. As I was wiggling my body under, I felt a snag on my back. Darn, I had not dug it deep enough and had a small cut. Oh well, I was through and a step closer to bacon.

I trotted up to the farm house, ignoring the stinging pain in my back, sniffing as I went. I smelt a few other dogs, some cats, at least four humans and some other animals I was not familiar with. All the scents smelt friendly so I became more confident and picked up my pace.

Finally, I reached the porch. The smell of bacon was now overwhelming. My aching stomach growled even louder, making me forget about my injury. I realized I had begun to whine. I guess the humans inside the house heard too, because a porch light came on and the side door opened.

For the next chapter visit http://bongodogblog.com tomorrow.

Thanks to Rocco's House for organizing such a fun event!

Mischief Monday - TRAITOR by Hailey

In October Lady went away for 3 nights and then one the next week. She said she would be around more after that. So imagine my surprise when Lady packed her bag on Saturday and said she would be back Sunday.

Both Phod and I gave her the saddest eyes ever, but she still left. I am not going to write here how much fun we had with the Man (the Lady may see it and call me a liar, liar), but I will say we survived.

We were very happy to have Lady home Sunday morning. Imagine our surprise when she came back smelling like other dogs. While our noses don't lie, we also went through her phone and found these. Clear evidence she was a traitor.

Pigsty
Rex
She was out giving love to other dogs.

After demanding a belly rub, and making her share lunch, I gave her the cold shoulder all afternoon to teach her a lesson. She should not go to a friend's for a girls' night if that friend has dogs and we can't go.

Do your people cheat on you?
